Day 1 : Queenstown - Te Anau
Heading south along the shores of Lake Wakatipu you are heading for Te Anau today. This picturesque town on the shores of Lake Te Anau is your base for the Fiordland National Park wilderness. When you arrive in Te Anau, your will continue onwards to Milford Sound on one of the most spectacular scenic drives in New Zealand, as you will feel dwarfed by the surrounding peaks. Once you arrive you will board for a cruise through the fiords. Also keep an eye out for bottlenose dolphins and fur seals as you cruise along.
Milford Sound is truly breathtaking in any weather. The fiord's cliffs rise vertically from the dark waters, mountain peaks scrape the sky and waterfalls cascade downwards, some as high as 1000 metres. When it rains in Milford Sound, and it often does, those waterfalls multiply with magnificent effect. You will feel humbled by the magnitude of nature upon your return to Te Anau late in the afternoon.

The Routeburn track is world famous and one of the Great Walks of New Zealand, and today you will be walking part of it. Starting at the Divide on the road between Te Anau and Milford Sound, this alpine nature walk passes a range of native vegetation: beech forest, sub-alpine shrublands, alpine tarns and bogs. Birdlife is prolific and tomtits, robins, New Zealand pigeons and bellbirds are commonly seen. As you gradually climb higher, you will be rewarded with panoramic views over Fiordland mountains and alpine lakes.
This track is also suitable families with children.

Day 3-4 : Doubtful Sound Kayaking
We can't rate this journey highly enough. A true wilderness adventure deep in Fiordland National Park awaits you today, as you'll be kayaking for 2 days in an untouched world of spectacular mountains, lush rain forests and dramatic landscapes. The peace and serenity in combination with the unspoilt vast wilderness and breathtaking scenery of the Doubtful Sound will leave you in awe. The Doubtful Sound is a remote fiord known as 'the Sound of Silence'. And it certainly is quieter here than it's more famous relative Milford Sound.
It is also home to the world's most southernmost population of bottlenose dolphins, and there's a good chance you will see them while you're on the water.
Beware to bring lots of insect repellent, as there's another population that lives here : the sandfly.
