World famous as the ultimate jet boat experience, Shotover Jet has thrilled over three million people since 1965 – and now it’s your turn!
Shotover Jet is the only company permitted to operate within the Shotover River’s spectacular canyons, carved over thousands of years by billions of tonnes of fast-flowing water from the heart of the Southern Alps. Less than 10 minutes’ drive from Queenstown is where you’ll find our jet boats skimming across as little as 10 centimetres of water with speeds of up to 85 kilometres per hour. Shotover Jet was one of Queenstown’s first adventure activities and continues to be at the forefront of jet boat innovation and design.

Location : Drive up Shotover Street and onto Gorge Road. Travel along Gorge Road towards Arthurs Point and Coronet Peak. Carry on until you come to a large one lane bridge ‘Edith Cavell Bridge’, cross this and the Shotover Jet entry is immediately on your left after you’ve crossed the bridge.

Combining the classic New Zealand invention of the jet boat with the Kiwi culture of adventure, Shotover Jet has become part of what is quintessentially ‘New Zealand’, helping to put Aotearoa on the global tourism map as one of the country’s must-do visitor activities.
From the moment the accelerator hits the floor, your adrenaline hits the roof. You’ll speed over 10cm deep water, along the famous Shotover River and deep into the spectacular Shotover River Canyons.
It’s an amazing white water ride, as the Shotover Canyon walls tower over you, your expert driver puts his state-of-the-art Big Red Jet Boat through its paces. At 85kph he’ll skillfully whip the powerful boat past rocky outcrops, skim around crags and boulders, and speed through the dramatic and narrow canyons. Rock faces blur in your peripheral vision and the water sprays into a myriad of white water crystals with every turn.
Summer : Eyewear recommended year round,
Winter : Dress warmly in winter – warm clothes, jacket, hat and gloves (although hand rails on the jet boats are heated) are strongly recommended.
For safety reasons the only cameras allowed on board Shotover Jet are forehead mounted hands free Go Pro or similar.
Any other cameras or phones are not permitted to be carried aboard our Jet boats.
Life jackets are mandatory and are supplied, along with optional splash coats
