Lost World Through the Window
Be guided as you walk down into a sinkhole adjacent to Lost World known as “The Window”. This entrance is vertical but now has a very handy staircase that provides access to the main Lost World abyss. From this very high place on the wall enjoy the best views in the cave as you make your way along about 80m above the floor of cavern ( Phew !). Follow the staircase downwards to an elevated platform while all the while taking in the visual feast. Now steel yourself for the next phase where you ride gentle zip lines along the walls of the cavern. The zip lines get you into an upper cave level from where your guide helps you make your way along rock ledges and small ladders back through the Spider Hole vault to the surface.
Lost World 4 Hours
Abseil slowly alongside your instructor who although on a separate rope provides information, reassurance ...and a backup safety tether. Imagine free-hanging in this massive void…bouncing a bit & turning because of the sheer length of the rope. Look around into upper levels of the cave and giant spagatites (look like giant green hands growing out of the walls). Weird plants struggle to cling to the sheer walls and all the while the roar of the Mangapu river echoes up from caverns far below. It feels like you’re descending into the bowels of some gigantic prehistoric beast…a sensory feast. One guide looks after up to 4 people - who all make their unforgettable descent together down through the surreal mists and eventually landing in the base of this massive cavern. Once down, catch your breath, because this is actually just the beginning - there’s a lot more to do and see and you explore the massive vaults - See excellent glowworms; gigantic flowstone formations; massive caverns.
Lost World 7 Hours
The 100m free-hanging abseil will astound you, but that’s only the beginning. Make sure you eat your lunch (provided) because you’re going to spend the rest of the day walking, wading and swimming through the cavernous passages of this famous underground system. Generally the ceiling is about 50-80m above you - this cave is big. See giant fossil oysters and whalebones; giant flowstone (looks like icing sugar running down the walls). Lots of fun & optional challenges - water jumps; climbs and spiders.
Tumu Tumu Toobing
This ripper of a trip combines the best elements of blackwater rafting with walking, climbing, swimming and tubing through distinctive sections of the spectacular TumuTumu Cave. See awesome cave formations as well as one of the best Glowworm displays in New Zealand.
Haggas Honkings Holes
This caving expedition packs a lot into only four hours - you'll encounter abseils (often in waterfalls), rock climbs, unique limestone formations and get up close to glowworms while exploring this fantastic cave system. See stalactites and stalagmites; columns and delicate straws.
St. Benedict Caverns
Imagine a huge underground chamber 100m long and 40m high - just bristling with stalactites; stalagmites; flowstone and all manner of wonderful natural creations. You gain access down a 60m shaft in two abseils. Once down, the group makes its way along connecting passages until suddenly you've arrived...The main chamber is fabulous and the best part is yet to come. Clip onto a flying fox (zip line) that will zing you part way across the chamber. After that it’s walking and clambering past even more unusual formations until reaching the exit stair. Pop out a round door right in the side of a hill and back into sunlight.
