    The morning is spent exploring the city locations on Mount Victoria and the ‘greenbelt’ we spend 40min walking through the outer shire. This location includes the famous ‘Get off the road’ scene, the ‘shortcut to mushrooms’ and the Black Rider scenes and many more. Then it’s off to the Weta Studios for an inside look at the Wellington film industry. The visit to Weta will include the brand new ‘Window into Workshop’ exhibition; which is a guided tour of the inner working of the Weta Studios; the physical side of the film production company. Also a short film showcasing the Digital side of Weta. And finally a opportunity to peruse the Weta Cave Museum and Shop. After the mornings excitement, it’s time for an Orc sized lunch. You will head out to Scorch-O-Rama cafe for an LOTR themed menu designed especially for Wellington Rover Tours. This is included in the cost of your tour. The afternoon is spent exploring the Hutt Valley. Stops include the Hutt River (Great River Anduin) and Harcourt Park (Gardens of Isengard and where the Orcs felled the trees). And finally you will visit Kaitoke Regional Park which was the setting for Rivendell. Situated in a thousand year old New Zealand Native rainforest, you will see why the Elves chose to live here!

    This Half day Lord of the Rings location tour brings the best locations in Wellington City. The first is exploring the film locations used around Wellington City. We start by heading down Courtenay Place, the nightlife centre of Wellington. This is where we find the Embassy Movie theatre where they had the world premier of LOTR: Return of the King and more recently The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. See where the stars walked & 100,000 people gathered to watch. Then it’s up to Mt Victoria and after a quick stop at the lookout for fabulous views of the City & Harbor you will go down to the ‘Green Belt’. Here we leave the vehicle and walk through the forest to stand where the actors stood while filming. You will visit many different scenes here including “Shortcut to Mushrooms”, ” Get off the Road”, “Race to the Ferry”, “Dunharrow Plateau” and more. For the second part of the tour, it’s off to ‘Wellywood’ the heart of the Wellington Film industry. You will go to the suburb of Mirimar where Peter Jackson & Weta NZ Have put thie film studios & post production facilities. You will stop at the Weta Cave and visit the brand new ‘Windows into Workshop’ exhibition. This is a guided tour of the physical prop-making & make-up side of the Weta Studios. Then you will see a short film about the Digital side of the productions. After time to allow you to see the mini-museum & souvenir shop you will be take back to the city.

The Gardens of Isengard, the site of the Orcs Felling the Trees and where Gandalf rode to see Saruman. See the quarry used for the filming of Helms Deep in Rohan and Minas Tirith.
